Submission of quarterly reports to the Chief Judge to keep him informed of developments requiring necessary action towards improved criminal justice delivery

That any other activity necessary for the effective and efficient administration of criminal justice is implemented

Our Practices

MONITORING

Monitoring the activities of the Nigeria Police and other Law Enforcement Agencies, the Judiciary, Ministry of Justice, Nigeria Correctional Service Rivers State Command, all other Criminal Justice institutions and Stakeholders to ensure that their activities are in compliance with the Provisions of the Rivers State Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) and other related statutes.

SUPERVISION

Supervise the monthly Inspection by Magistrates of Police Stations and other places of detention in the State and the submission of monthly reports and quarterly returns by relevant criminal justice institutions as required by the ACJL.

PUBLICATION

Receive, Collate and Publish Statutory Reports and Returns from relevant Criminal Justice Institutions and present them to the Council for deliberations and necessary actions. We also receive reports/complaints from individuals on abandoned Criminal matters pending in Courts or at other Criminal Justice Institution with a view to resolving the challenges.

TRAININGS

Strategise and Organise Programmes and Visits generally geared towards decongesting the Custodial Centres, Police Stations and other Law Enforcement Agencies, effective Management of Custodial Centres, Decongestion of old Criminal Cases in the Courts and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Speedy trial of Criminal Cases, unlawful detention, Collaboration and Co-operation amongst criminal justice institutions, etc.

STATUTORY MEETINGS

Organising Statutory Meetings and Trainings for Council Members, other Criminal Justice Institutions and Stakeholders to foster synergy amongst the various Criminal Justice Actors.

PARTNERSHIP

We partner with NGOs and Institutions with a bias for Criminal Justice in advocating for provision of resources, both human, material and capital necessary to boost compliance with the provisions of the Law, educating and creating public awareness on the rights and obligations of Citizens and State, in achieving a crime-free Society.
